📋 SAP Cloud Licensing Guide

Understanding SAP licensing on cloud is complex. Here is a clear breakdown.

SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud (HEC)

SAP-managed HANA. ~$15,000–50,000/month depending on size. Includes infrastructure, OS, HANA license, 24/7 support.

BYOL (Bring Your Own License)

Use existing SAP licenses on cloud. Requires Software Update Service (SUS). Most flexible but requires active maintenance contract.

SAP on AWS / Azure / GCP

Pay-per-use SAP licensing available on AWS Marketplace and Azure. Typically 15-20% premium over BYOL but no upfront commitment.

SAP on OCI — Oracle Database Advantage

Running SAP with Oracle DB on OCI has most favourable licensing terms. Avoid Oracle DB on AWS/Azure which can increase DB license costs significantly.
