OCI Expands Free Egress to 10TB/Month for All Paid Accounts
Oracle Cloud expanded the free monthly egress allowance to 10TB for all paid OCI accounts (previously only Always Free tier). After the free 10TB, pricing remains at $0.0085/GB — still 10x cheaper than AWS ($0.09/GB) and Azure ($0.087/GB). The change applies to all OCI regions including Singapore.
Impact calculation: A workload with 15TB/month egress: OCI = $42.50 (10TB free + 5TB at $0.0085/GB) vs AWS = $1,350 ($0.09/GB × 15,000GB) vs Azure = $1,305. That is a $1,307/month or $15,684/year saving vs AWS for just 15TB of egress. At 50TB/month: OCI = $340, AWS = $4,500, Azure = $4,350.
TCOIQ Action: Audit your current monthly egress in AWS Cost Explorer — filter by DataTransfer-Out-Bytes usage type. If you are paying over $500/month in AWS egress fees alone, model a migration to OCI for egress-heavy workloads. Even a hybrid approach — keep AWS managed services but use OCI for large file serving — can yield substantial savings.
