AWS S3 Standard 10% Price Cut — First S3 Reduction in 3 Years
AWS reduced S3 Standard storage pricing by 10% globally effective March 2026. New pricing: $0.0207/GB/month (was $0.023/GB). S3 Infrequent Access ($0.0125/GB) and Glacier ($0.004/GB) pricing is unchanged. The reduction applies to all regions proportionally. Request costs and data transfer remain unchanged.
In absolute terms: 100TB/month of S3 Standard now costs $2,070 vs $2,300 previously — saving $230/month. This is welcome but S3 remains significantly more expensive than alternatives: OCI Object Storage at $0.0255/GB and Azure Blob at $0.018/GB for equivalent durability.
TCOIQ Action: The 10% cut is automatic — no action needed to receive it. However, if you have large S3 buckets without lifecycle policies, implementing intelligent tiering still saves 50-70% regardless of this price cut. Audit your S3 costs in AWS Cost Explorer filtered by StorageType to find Standard storage that could move to IA or Glacier.
